What is a Radio Controlled Clock?

A Radio Controlled Clock is a clock that is capable of recieving and decoding a special radio signal that sets the time. The timekeeping in the signal is regulated by Caesium Atomic Clocks which are the most accurate type of timekeeping in history, The Caesium Atomic Clock has an accuracy of one second in one million years! Because of this, sometimes the Radio Controlled Clocks are incorrectly labelled as ‘Atomic Clocks’ although there is nothing ‘atomic’ inside your average Radio Controlled Clock or Radio Controlled Watch. As the Radio Controlled Clocks and Radio Controlled Watches are updated by the Atomic Clocks you end up with a very very accurate timepiece, be it on your wall or on your wrist.

In the UK the MSF radio signal is broadcast from Anthorn Radio Station located at Anthorn, Cumbria while in the US the signal comes from WWBV, a radio station in Boulder, Colorado. The Radio Controlled Clocks or Radio Controlled Watches listen for the signal and usually once a day, set themselves to the correct time.

The signal broadcast in the UK covers all of the country and most of northern Europe while the whole of the US, Canada and some of Central and South America are covered by the WWBV signal. The coverage area tends to be greater during the night time and as such this is when most Radio Controlled Clocks update themselves.

Radio Controlled Clocks come in all shapes and sizes, there are radio controlled wall clocks, free standing Radio Controlled Clocks, Radio Controlled Alarm Clocks, outdoor Radio Controlled Clocks, Radio Controlled Projection Clocks, analogue Radio Controlled Clocks, digital Radio Controlled Clocks and Radio Controlled Clocks that have a weather/temperature display built in to them. Similarly, there are various designs of Radio Controlled Watches, digital Radio Controlled Watches, analogue Radio Controlled Watches etc.

The Radio Controlled Clocks and Radio Controlled Watches may look exactly the same as other clocks and watches but where they differ is in their accuracy, while other clocks and watches loose or gain a few seconds a day the Radio Controlled Clocks and Radio Controlled Watches are kept at the exact time to less than a second, every day.
No more adjusting the time on your clock or watch to match up with the time signal you hear on the radio, no more adjusting your clock or watch to change forward an hour to summer time or back an hour to winter time, these Radio Controlled Clocks and Radio Controlled Watches are exactly matched with the radio time signal every day and Radio Controlled Clocks and Radio Controlled Watches automatically update to summer/winter time, without you having to do a thing!

Who remembers dialing 123 to set their watch? Beep beep beeeep! Well, no more relying on BT(who?) or the radio to get the correct time, no more having to set it every day, if you buy a Radio Controlled Clock or Buy a Radio Controlled Watch you will have the correct time, all the time.
